Bad Times - Food For Thought

In bad times you will need to find others to join up with. The question is what level will these people be at in long term living conditions?

As an individual, you will hold off as long as possible in a position, yours personally or with others. When it is not feasible to stay you will relocate, willing or not.

If bad happens overnight (extreme disasters). For the short term; to make friends, to survive until things settle down long enough for everyone to catch their breath and evaluate what is going on, you will need arms, food, water, gold, silver, shelter, and the means to make others find you attractive and needed.

If forced to relocate all of your stuff will become worthless and a burden. You will need skills which make you an asset to others for the short and long term. You may have to relocate to a group which finds your skills useful. Some of your skills may be limited, but no skills makes you worthless (another mouth to feed, more responsibility to others, and even a liability to the group).

The gun in the purse or pocket and an AK 47 will eliminate the problem of being harmed personally. You might die in a gunfight, but no one lives forever.

You need to focus on useful skills; first aid will make you an asset to most anyone if you can do it and have the supplies. Recently I took up leather craft and making medicine (which works well with my Hoy Chi skills). As a 3 man team, militia, your options and worth to others will be endless on the stuff you can learn and the people you will meet. If your team has valuable skills, this will also offer you leverage in any long or short term with a group or organization. You don't want to be a threat or hardship to the group (3 man militia), but an asset of worth.

There is no reason to be scared or paranoid if you are working on different plans for the future.

I say all of this after being in combat in Vietnam, being unemployed (unable to support my family), the ups and downs of being self-employed, assaulted (emotionally, physically, financially, and mentally) by numerous groups (organized and unorganized), going through life changing health problems from a loved one leading to bankruptcy, and have to completely change my life and the way I perceive the future. Many of these events happened overnight.

Most of the time, if it wasn’t for team effort (friends, family, or militia), I wouldn’t have been able to overcome as well as I did. This is why I am thankful for what I have and focus on what I have and not bitch or ponder on what I don’t have. My pass and newly acquired skills have offered me a future in a far off land.

Have faith in yourself, you will surprise yourself on what you are capable of doing and learning.
